HCG (5000 IU Vial) Dosage Protocol
Reconstitution and dosing guide for the 5000 IU HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) vial — a gonadotropin dosed in international units (IU), studied for testicular function, fertility, and hormonal support.
Quickstart Highlights
HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a gonadotropin hormone that mimics luteinizing hormone (LH). In males it stimulates testicular Leydig cells to produce testosterone and helps maintain testicular size and fertility; in females it is used in research on ovulation. It is dosed in international units (IU), not milligrams, and given subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
- Composition: 5000 IU HCG per vial
- Reconstitute: Add 5.0 mL bacteriostatic water → 1000 IU/mL concentration
- Easy measuring: At 1000 IU/mL, 1 unit (0.01 mL) on a U-100 syringe = 10 IU (so 250 IU = 25 units)
- Storage: Lyophilized: −20 °C (−4 °F); reconstituted: 2–8 °C (35.6–46.4 °F), protected from light, use within 2–4 weeks
Dosing & Reconstitution Guide
Subcutaneous protocol, typically 2–3 times per week; dosing is in IU
Protocol (5000 IU vial, 5 mL = 1000 IU/mL)
| Protocol | Per-dose | Frequency | Units (U-100) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 250 IU | 2–3× per week | 25 units (0.25 mL) |
| Higher | 500 IU | 2–3× per week | 50 units (0.50 mL) |
Administration: Inject subcutaneously (or intramuscularly). Reconstituted HCG is fragile — keep refrigerated and use within a few weeks. Dosing is in IU; do not confuse with milligrams. A 5000 IU vial provides roughly 10–20 doses depending on amount.
Reconstitution Steps
- Allow the vial to reach room temperature (15–20 minutes out of cold storage).
- Draw 5.0 mL bacteriostatic water with a sterile syringe.
- Inject slowly down the vial wall to avoid foaming.
- Gently swirl or roll until fully dissolved (do not shake).
- Label with date and concentration; refrigerate at 2–8 °C, protected from light.
- Reconstitute into a sterile mixing vial if the full 5 mL will not fit the original vial.
Result: 1000 IU/mL concentration
How This Works
HCG binds the LH receptor, so in males it directly stimulates the testes to produce testosterone and preserves testicular volume and spermatogenesis — useful where natural LH signaling is suppressed.
Because it bypasses the pituitary and acts at the testis, it is studied as a way to maintain endogenous testicular function and fertility.
Key Administration Notes
- Dosing is in IU — never confuse with milligrams.
- Keep reconstituted HCG refrigerated; it is sensitive to heat and time.
- Use new sterile insulin syringes; rotate sites; sharps disposal.
- Document dose, route, and frequency for consistency.
