Administration: Subcutaneous injection roughly 30–60 minutes before sleep. DSIP has a short half-life and is generally used acutely rather than continuously. A 5 mg vial provides about 16–50 doses depending on the amount used.
Reconstitution Steps
- Allow the vial to reach room temperature (15–20 minutes out of cold storage).
- Draw 2.0 mL bacteriostatic water with a sterile syringe.
- Inject slowly down the vial wall to avoid foaming.
- Gently swirl or roll until fully dissolved (do not shake).
- Label with date and concentration; refrigerate at 2–8 °C, protected from light.
Result: 2.5 mg/mL concentration
How This Works
DSIP is an endogenous neuropeptide able to cross the blood–brain barrier. Although its exact receptor targets remain incompletely defined, research links it to promotion of slow-wave sleep, normalization of disrupted sleep architecture, and modulation of stress hormones along the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis.
Additional studies have explored roles in pain modulation and antioxidant activity. Because effects are short-acting, DSIP is typically used on an as-needed basis around the sleep period.
Key Administration Notes
- Use shortly before the intended sleep period for best alignment with circadian timing.
- Rotate injection sites; use new sterile insulin syringes and a sharps container.
- Start at the low end and adjust based on response.
